Wine Science Programme

Our new vineyard and winery

In July 2011 The University of Auckland was given the beautiful and historic Goldwater Vineyard for use as a teaching facility for its Wine Science programme.

This 14 hectare vineyard and winery will provide a world-class venue for students to live, study and work in a boutique winery in an important winegrowing region of New Zealand.

The vineyard is planted in classical varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Chardonnay. Students will be able to live either in a villa on the property or in nearby residences while lectures will be held in the winery building itself. Viticulture and winemaking assignments will be coordinated with the commercial operation so that students can take full opportunity of the facility.

Students will also participate in internships as well as having the opportunity to take up paid work positions with other Waiheke Island vineyards and wineries.
